Zones Athlectics

Kia Ora everyone!

Yesterday, the 6th of November I went to zones.
I went to zones because In my school athletics I came 3rd in long distance (1000m),fourth in the finals of the 60m sprints and fourth in the 80m sprints.

In Zones I raced in event numbers 1, 5 and 25. My first event was the relays my relay team included Amelia, Keira and Milan.  We came third! My second event was 60m sprints and my third was the long distance race, I didn't get a placing for them.

Here are some photos
 Goodbye for now!

Jubilate

Hello everyone

On Monday O.L.A. school choir went to Jubilate. Jubilate is when Catholic school choirs from around Christchurch go to a church and sing.

We took a bus to St Mary’s Pro Cathedral. We sang lots of songs, even Bishop Paul-Martin came. Apparently we sounded lovely. We left school around 9am and came back at around 12pm.

I enjoyed it a lot and I hope to do it again next year!

Thanks for reading

Lola

Week one reflection

Kia Ora everyone!

This is a reflection of this week. We got up to some cool things like:

  • Chapter Chat*
  • Maths: Problem solving**
  • Inquiry Matt's visit***

Things like chapter chat and problem solving are new to us so it was fun trying them out and seeing how they work!
_________________________________________________________________________________*Chapter chat is a really cool thing we do on twitter this time we read a book called a Fish In a Tree. It is about a girl named Ally and she has dyslexia so she feels left out. The bit we do on twitter is we get our own question about it and we write the answer to it when our question is on a tweet.

** problem solving is when we are in a group and we our own book to write our explanations  and at the end we explain it in front of the other groups.
*** Matt is  from enviroschools Canterbury and he helped us with our  plans to help the eels we are making a comic for us

Refugee day

As-salaam Alaikum everyone

On Thursday the fourth of April we had refugee day so we could raise money for the South Sudanese people. It was also a part of our R.E. studies.

We built houses out of boxes and we ate half a cup of rice in a bowl. In my group were my friends: Molly and Amelia. We built a hut using a big white box. We bent it so it looked like a tent. Then we got two other boxes and they were the tunnel and the wall. We cut the side of the box for a window, one on the roof and the other on the side. We ate our rice on the table outside. We made that out of another small box.  The rice was delicious the refugees wouldn't of had rice that good though. We went down to the tarp over the jumping pit and got some water from it with our bowls. It was surprisingly clean! We took it back on our heads. then everybody copied us.

I loved doing the refugee day but I wouldn't like to live like that. This day has made me realise how good our life is compared to theirs. I feel sorry for them, I hope you feel the same. If you do then why don't you donate money to Caritas? It would really help!

South sudan story (made up)

Hello everybody

This is a little story about life in a refugee camp.

I woke up in a tiny tent after a nearly sleepless night. I’m not looking forward to dreading the day ahead. I have to walk around 3 kilometres to get to the water pump. I swing on the handle until the water comes out.

When I have enough I’ve got to go and collect the food from the market. Don’t forget this is a very hot day.  I’m at the market and I get fish and rice and walk home with them on my head. We eat a bit of it.

Now I have free time. I can go and play with my friends, I play volleyball my teams wins! Some people from Caritas came to take photos of us for a video. We smile. My friends and I like having our photo taken.

After a long day of playing I go home and have a bit more of the food, I try my very best to sleep but in this heat it is nearly impossible! Soon I’ll wake up for another day in this camp.

Korfball

Kia Ora everybody

This week we had the pleasure of being taught Korfball. Korfball is similar to netball and basketball.
The rules are:

There are two hoops, two teams and eight players, the teams have two girls and two boys.  If you get the ball in the hoop you get a point. You can shoot in the hoop from behind, in front and the side. The girls mark the girls and the boys mark the boys. Good defence gets rewarded, so if player 1 gets up and defends really close and the player 2 tries to shoot in the hoop player 1's team gets the ball.
Some things you can't do are:

  • Travel with the ball
  • Whack the ball out of the other person's hand
  • Bounce the ball
I had lots of fun learning Korfball and Can't wait to give it a try at home.
